She attracted recognition in 2011 for her lead part in the sci-fi thriller Super 8 which earned her the Spotlight Award at the Hollywood thriller Festival. She then played the title role in the comedy films We Bought a Zoo (2011) and Ginger & Rosa (2012) as well as the role of the princess Aurora in the epic fantasy film Maleficent (2014) and Maleficent the Mistress of Evil (2019).
